Colour Theory in UX App Design

“Colour theory” is a term sometimes used as an umbrella term for “ui design principles”, which are the building blocks of good user experience. These include the idea that different colours have different meanings, can create moods and can be used to communicate specific messages. A well applied colour scheme can create a dramatic improvement in both the looks and functionality of any app. Unfortunately many people are unfamiliar with colour theory and the concepts it applies to both design and usability. This article aims to provide a simple explanation of colour theory, its applications and how to implement it in user-experience application design.

In a very general sense, colour theory can be applied to any given experience.

By taking the word “colour” and replacing it with its synonym “hues”, we get ux – the term for the interface colours used in mobile applications. Bright colours like blue, red or yellow are used for the menus and content of an app. darker shades of these colours are used for things such as the icons used to represent applications or for the background images.

There are two key things to note about ux theory.

The first is that many colours have their own unique properties, and can even be mixed to create new, unusual colours. Secondly, some colours can be used to create contrast, which can be another useful tool to improve the user experience.

One example of the use of contrast is the use of two slightly different shades of the same colour, one slightly lighter than the other.

These two colours can be combined to make one more contrasting than the original. For example, if you have the lightest shade of blue, then combining it with the darkest shade of purple can make the blue seem to recede, fade or disappear altogether. Again, the different shades can be used to make different effects.

There are a number of ways that different colours can be combined.

For example, by using black and white images, they can be used to make an image look lighter or darker. Similarly, when using dark and light text, the dark text can be used to draw the eye to a particular part of the page. If the images used are too small to see any difference, then adding a little more colour to the image will make all the difference. The important thing to remember is that lighter and darker colours can be used together in a design to add depth or create illusions of space. However, when using a combination of colours like this, it is important to make sure that the colours work together as a whole, and that there are no obvious clashing elements.

When creating a layout for an app, it is often helpful to play with the different colours to make different effects.

For example, a light blue background can make a photo appear to be bigger than it really is, or give the illusion of a halo around a subject. By playing with different colours like this, designers can make very detailed and sophisticated layouts that can really enhance the experience on a mobile device. As well as the backgrounds being made bigger or smaller, images can also be positioned anywhere within the layout. This means that the entire background can change at any given time.

Another great way to add a sense of dimension and life to images is to make the background darker or lighter.

Different coloured images can appear to disappear if the colours used are too bright. However, different coloured images can also make other elements in the layout stand out more. For example, if black is used for the background in an image, a red apple in a red background will make the apple stand out more.

It is very important to understand how different colours can be used to optimize the appearance of a layout.

Different colours can be used depending on whether you want to emphasize the shape of an object or focus on a different colour. By playing with the different colours of the rainbow, it is possible to create the exact effect you desire. All it takes is creativity and an understanding of how different colours can be blended together in order to create the exact effect you are after.

    Low and Medium Fidelity Wireframes

    Wireframes

What is low fidelity wireframes? A low fidelity wireframe, also known as a dummy layout, is just that – a model of your product or website without any graphics, text, icons, or interactive parts. Often, low fidelity wireframes are needed for website testing because you want to make sure that the website will look how you envision it before you have it published. Without a good design, there’s no point in getting your website up and running!

    What are low fidelity wireframes?

A low fidelity wireframe is just a skeleton of an online page, graphic, app, or form. Low fidelity means it won’t contain any text, icons, buttons, or interactive components. Typically, low fidelity wireframes can be developed using hand, as a quick sketch, or they can be developed using a free wireframe tool such as Sketch or Figma. Some designers prefer to develop their wireframes using software tools, while others prefer to just draw everything in their imagination.

There are many advantages too low fidelity wireframes.

They allow you to see your website in advance, and often times, you can see different aspects of the layout at once. You can see how the pages will flow, and this will help you optimise your page layouts and make necessary changes. By playing around with the layout, you can quickly get a better feel for what each page will look like, and what interactions will work. In addition, you can make any necessary changes while in the process of testing your site.

However, low fidelity wireframes often have their limitations.

Some elements, like logo colours, can’t be changed at all. This can be a big problem when designing your site, as changing these elements can sometimes break the layout of the page and make it difficult to follow. It’s important that your wireframe fidelity stay right at the right level. For example, you’ll need to create a good relationship between header graphics, images, content, and position values, if you want your page to flow well and look professional.

When designing something using low fidelity wireframes, you may have to play close attention to details.

The goal is to have a wireframe that is easy to follow, yet still detailed enough to show you how your pages will look when finished. As you’re designing something, make sure there are no unnecessary elements on the page. Elements like tabs or a menu bar could get in the way of the actual design process. Don’t forget to account for these things, as they can cause problems along the way during the actual design process. When in doubt, leave the details to the professionals.

There’s nothing worse than looking at wire-framing designs and thinking, “What does this mean?”

When low fidelity wireframes were first introduced, they were done in vector graphics. Today, designers have learned to use vector graphics well. This allows you to get a better look at the final product, which can make all the difference in the world when designing something. High fidelity designs, while more accurate, don’t look as good as low fidelity wireframes. You should use a software program that allows you to experiment with the look of the page before getting started.

When low and medium fidelity wireframe options are compared, there’s really no comparison between them.

They both provide you with a fast and effective way to see the end result of your design. Since you can see the end result quickly, you can adjust parts of the design easily without having to recreate the whole page. This is a big advantage over low and medium fidelity.

One thing that many designers forget about when working on a design is the line between prototyping and designing.

Proving out concepts is always great, but sometimes it’s best to just build prototypes. Using a sketching tool helps you to create prototypes very easily. Since low fidelity wireframes are very detail oriented, you won’t need to worry about going back and making changes if the idea doesn’t work. With sketch tools, you can build a simple, functional prototype right from scratch.

What do you use to create your wireframes?

    Latest-Mobile-App-Design

Smartphone users have evolved into thinking more like a computer than a cell phone. That is why it is no surprise that we see so many apps that are available solely on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. People of all ages and from all walks of life use mobile apps in one form or another. As our mobile technology improves we are also seeing advanced features that can only be executed on the go. Here are some of the latest mobile app design trends to keep an eye on:

    design trends

    Augmented Reality.

We saw this with the launch of the Apple iPhone 4 which combined the camera and GPS into one device. Now, with the Android handset platform and Windows Phones, we are seeing augmented reality mobile app design trends take hold. This lets users virtually touch items in real world with the use of their smartphones. Examples include shopping applications that allow consumers to view items in stores and then purchase them with a swipe of their smartphone.

    Gesture UI.

Another one of the mobile app design trends to keep an eye on is gesture UI, which is the new way of designing user interfaces with only finger gestures. What is gestures? Basically, these are virtual icons that can tell the smartphone user where to go or what action to perform on a screen. Developers who are implementing this trend will need to come up with new and interesting ways to get people’s attention while still providing a streamlined experience.

    White Space.

As touch UI progresses, so does the trend of designing smartphones without any buttons, icons, menus, etc. Many app makers are starting to adopt a white space approach to the app to make it more functional. With no elements to guide users, the only thing you’ll see is smooth transition from one page to the other or the app will be completely blank. The latest app designs are all about making use of white space extensively.

    Dark Theme.

Another one of the mobile app design trends is to implement a darker theme, especially for navigation elements. There are actually two reasons for this, the first reason being the importance of visual cues in increasing user engagement. Dark elements help focus the users’ attention on a particular element with more clarity than a lighter theme would. The second reason is that darker shades help create more immersive and natural experiences. In other words, using darker colours for backgrounds, icons, and buttons creates more natural and appealing experiences that are more appealing to a wide variety of users.

    3D Graphics.

Also part of the 3D graphics set off by many mobile app design trends, 3D graphics help make your app’s more interesting and fun to use. It also helps make the app’s overall functionality easier to understand. The best part about this particular design practice is that it enables the app designers to get a glimpse of the business owner’s vision for the app before he/she spends time and effort in building it.

    Functional Animation.

Many mobile applications have started including more elements of interactive content in their apps. However, one of the latest mobile app design trends is the incorporation of high-end 3D graphics and rich digital textured backgrounds in their applications. This not only creates a more rich experience but makes the app’s overall performance simpler and easier to understand as well.

    Material Design.

Although material design is considered the most important aspect of creating a user experience, some mobile app design trends have started focusing on using colourful, shimmering and other visually interesting materials more often. Another practice that has become popular in recent years is the incorporation of white space. Usually seen in the latest mobile games and innovative social networking applications, the use of white space allows the designers to add more elements of interaction to the app. This practice is useful when making a mobile application that includes rich digital media like videos and images, so adding a white border around these elements helps the user focus on the content and not on the flashy background.

  • What Is Rapid Prototyping?

    What Is Rapid Prototyping?

    What Is Rapid Prototyping?

    Rapid-Prototyping

Rapid Prototyping is the process of designing, building and testing a digital model from computer-aided design or CAM. CAM is not photography, but rather computer-aided design. Computer aided design or CAD means it produces a physical artefact, such as a plastic or metal object, by manipulating physical images. In Rapid Prototyping, computer generated models are produced in layers. The first layer is called the “scanner” and it lets the designers know where to place the next layer.

Rapid Prototyping has many advantages over other prototyping methods.

The main advantage is that it allows the designer to quickly visualize the end product and make changes before they go to production. This minimizes mistakes due to rapid changes in the requirements for the final product. Rapid prototyping also allows the designer to see the final product long before it is put into production.

Rapid Prototyping ux is creating prototypes for electronic products, consumer product and medical product applications.

Electronic consumer products include cell phones, mp3 players, watches, computers, consumer electronic appliances and electronic books. Medical products are medications, surgical supplies, devices used in critical care and surgical robots. User interface systems for electronic products and electronic gadgets are typically created through Rapid Prototyping.

The rapid prototyping process used for making user interfaces can be accomplished using desktop CNC mills or machine tools.

The software necessary to create a rapid prototype needs to be CAD compatible. Most rapid prototypes produced by desktop CNC machines are very good. You do need to have experience with rapid prototyping to create an accurate model from computer-aided design files. There are three options for producing prototypes: using desktop CNC machining, wirefeed machines or hydraulic presses. All three methods produce good quality prototypes.

If you are producing widgets, you need to be familiar with Rapid Prototyping ux and rapid Prototypes.

First, the widgets produced by a CNC milling machine will not have a correct shape, but they will be functional. It is very difficult to make widgets that will go through quality production standards. Secondly, the widgets produced by desktop CNC machining can be inaccurate, but they will still function. Finally, you may have a difficult time making widgets that look nice and function correctly.

You can use rapid prototyping equipment to help make widgets go through the production process more quickly.

This includes helping you to remove excess material during the prototypes or to redesign parts of the prototypes to fit the design specifications of the final product. When you use rapid prototyping, it is much easier to change the shape, size and functionality of prototypes. You can then use the final product as a guide for making other parts of the product or to remake the entire prototype.

There are a few different ways to approach the production of a rapid prototype.

One way is to use desktop CNC machining to build the prototype. This option offers many advantages. First, you can take advantage of computer numerical controlled (CNC) milling and other computer aided design processes that speed up prototyping. This enables you to create a prototype faster than it would be able to be made using traditional methods.

You can also use additive manufacturing to create rapid prototyping prototypes.

The advantage of additive manufacturing is that it allows rapid changes in shape and size without the need for costly machining or CNC molds. You can use this method with desktop CNC machining equipment as well as CNC milling machines. In addition to saving on costs, additive manufacturing will also allow you to create a wide variety of prototypes to meet the needs of your design applications.

Top Tips for App Design That Can Help You Get Your App Off the Ground

    App Design

Whether you’re a seasoned business professional, an aspiring entrepreneur, or an inexperienced non-technical startup guru, your first order of business is app design. If you’re going to launch an app, you need a good app design, and if you have a fairly limited budget to work with, that’s even more important. You owe it to yourself to invest in top-notch app design from the very start. The difference between a good app and a bad one can be the quality of user interface, the ease of use, the platform compatibility, and many other factors. There are a few different places where you can look to find the best examples of App designs.

    Talk to experts

For example, you can talk to experts in the industry, like industry participants, professionals, or owners of big names in mobile apps. These people will be able to give you an insider’s perspective on what’s working right now, what’s not working right now, and what’s coming up in the near future. You’ll also find a plethora of resources online related to app design, including design companies, user experience specialists, and more.

    Look at App stores

You can also look at Apple’s App Store for good app ideas and examples, and use this as a place to learn more about how developers think about and create good app designs. The App Store features hundreds of free and paid apps, so you can easily find something to suit your purposes. And because the App Store allows consumers to rate and comment on the apps they’ve downloaded (on a five star system), you can go browsing through user reviews and see exactly how well popular the particular app may be.

    Talk to various designers

In addition to looking online for good app design examples, you should also consider talking to designers directly. If you live in London or Cape Town, for example, talk to designers at different businesses to get their take on what makes a good app design for a business in that city. This will help you to better understand the challenges faced by designers working on different types of apps in a variety of cities. You can also talk to people in your own industry, too. People in the fashion and electrical industries might be able to give you helpful advice on what makes for a good app design, especially if you’re considering making an app to target specific sectors or demographics.

    Other industry professionals

You can also ask other professionals within your industry what they do to make the most effective apps, what obstacles they have to overcome along the way, and what they think are the best practices today. Your colleagues and peers will be happy to share their ideas with you. And if they aren’t working in the mobile app design industry but are interested in creating something interesting or useful for consumers, then you can even ask them to contribute by offering input on the app design process. Asking your peers for help in the design process is a great way of saving time and money, which are often essential when you’re working on a budget.

    Wireframes

Before you start the app design process, however, it’s important to draw wireframes. Wireframes let you see what your application will look like from a user’s perspective, and they give you an idea of how it will flow and work within the mobile app design workspace. Wireframes can be created using 3D software like Solid Explorer or Photoshop. They can also be drawn using a generic tool called Flash.

  • 4 Quick Steps to application Design Development

4 Quick Steps to application Design Development

4 Quick Steps to Application Design Development

The application design process can be split into four primary stages: Planning, boarding, testing and maintenance. Each of these stages is more important than the other depending on the nature of the application. If an application requires extensive testing and feedback it will take longer to complete than a simple social networking application. Likewise, if a complicated application needs to be tested on a variety of devices then a highly specialised web design is required. Knowing what each stage means can help you to determine how your project should proceed.

    Application Design Process

Planning An application design process begins with planning.

You need to consider all the requirements and business goals of the project to ensure that the project delivers the expected results. The first step is to identify the key user groups within the application. Users will typically fall into one of several categories: novice, intermediate, expert, or discerning. In addition to targeting these users, you should also focus on understanding the user’s behaviour so that you can provide a user-friendly ui (ui designer) experience.

Boardroom meetings are the next step in the application development process.

Your business team will discuss your product requirements with key stakeholders. These would include customers, prospects, business partners, and internal employees. The first step in the mobile app design process involves the estimation of business costs to determine the financial allocation for the project.

    Usability Testing

After the budget and user group estimates are finalised the next step in the designing process is to check with the stakeholders to find their requirements. This section involves a detailed walk through of the application using mock screens and/or prototypes. This step helps you to know exactly what users expect to see in your application and test it accordingly. This is an important step in testing and gaining valuable feedback. You can use data gathered in the usability testing session to guide the creation of your final material design.application design

    The cognitive load test

The final step in the application design process is to create and run a cognitive load test. This is a simple test that measures the number of downloads required to complete the full program. It can also measure performance in navigating to the desired pages, opening files and folders, and searching files within the app. The cognitive load test measures speed, memory, attention, and processing.

Applications are a great way to communicate with prospects and existing customers. Your first step in the design development process should be to sketch out a wireframe, define the screen and text size, add buttons, images, and other functionalities. With the right software, you can build an amazing user experience right from the beginning. By following the above steps, you are well on your way to developing a delightful app for iOS devices.

  • Branding Researching: Look and Feel

    Branding Researching: Look and Feel

    Branding Researching: Look and Feel

    graphic design

Look and feel is an important component of graphic design. The entire design process begins with selecting the right look and feel. A graphic designer considers how each element of the graphic will relate to the overall look and feel for the site. The key elements involved in developing the look and feel of a website are color, layout, images, photos, typography, and background. While there are a number of design techniques that can be used to achieve specific results, these techniques can be combined to achieve more seamless design.

    User Interfaces

Look and feel in user interfaces often serves two very important purposes. First, it gives brand identification, helping to differentiate a particular brand from another. Second, it enhances ease of usability, as users will become more comfortable with how one particular product works (reads, looks, etc.) A good graphic designer has a toolbox full of innovative ideas for user interface design that will help enhance the look and feel of your site.

    Importance of Brand Identity

Brand identity is the cornerstone of any successful business. Good graphic designers know how to craft brand guidelines that will enhance brand identity while also conveying a consistent message. In fact, brand guidelines can be one of the most challenging components of a graphic design project because they will need to be flexible enough to accommodate new messages that may emerge during the development process.

    Ux Design

User experience design is highly technical, because the entire design process hinges on the satisfaction of the customer. For this reason, graphic designers typically have to plan out the complete visual presentation of a website in the user interface. This includes everything from page layouts, wireframe development, widget tools, icon set up, and color scheme planning. They must also brainstorm about brand standards, navigation, and navigation solutions so that everything is clearly readable and intuitive to users.

User experience (UX) design takes into consideration the mental models that people form when they navigate a website. The most important part of a good user experience (UX) process involves research. A brand identity should be researched so that it can be accurately determined what behaviors result in buying or subscribing to a certain brand. Brand guidelines should also be developed so that usability can be examined and analyzed. These steps are usually considered the third step in the e.g. branding, visual design, and functionality, which combine to create the final branding vision.

    Brand Guidelines

A successful visual and functional designer also needs to apply brand guidelines in the interface design. Brand guidelines can include anything from typography, color schemes, and graphics to navigation options and navigational elements (such as search boxes and buttons). They can also be general or specific. For example, a green background in a photo of an infant would be very different from the color palette used for an online banking website. While some website elements, such as drop down menus, can be changed through the layout process, most interface elements cannot.

    Brand Development

After all the research and planning is complete, brand development is the next step in the user experience and interface design process. A strong brand identity and consistent visual design are necessary for a successful branding campaign. Branding experts typically work with graphic artists, web designers, and marketing managers. In addition, a strong marketing strategy is also necessary to spread the word about a brand and increase its visibility in the market. For example, spending on TV commercials, social media posts, and in-house promotions could greatly improve the business’s profitability.

Once all these elements are in place, brand development takes over and final visual updates and enhancements are made. User testing is one of the last steps in the process. Users are given the chance to test the product, and negative feedback is taken into account. Brand research is crucial to making successful modifications and updates in the look and feel design process.

A wireframe is a very basic layout of a web page that includes no color, no imagery and, in some cases, no text.

Mobile application design could be a long process, and wireframes play a key role in defining the structural foundation of the product, making it easier to understand and refine in the long run. These structured drawings focus mainly on what the screen does, and not exactly what it looks like.

They guide the user through a full experience without being distracted by the visual design and graphic elements that at this stage may cause undesired draws of attention.

The reason to use a wireframe:

    • You don’t know much about the concept
    • You don’t know how to wireframe an app
    • You don’t know why it’s important to create an app wireframe

    A wireframe shows:

    • Page elements
    • Object categories
    • Content prioritization
    • Possible actions
    • Visual branding elements

    A wireframe does not show:

    • Design elements
    • Colors
    • Actual Images
    • Fonts
    • Logos

Many believe that mobile app wireframes are used to demonstrate how the application will look like. While it’s true in some way, the main aim is to show how your product will look like.

A wireframe is a good way to see how all the features of an app will look when users view it. It’s also a good way to visualize the amount of space they’ll take up. Important navigational features should be at the top of the page. Most wireframes are created in grayscale so the designer must shade light and dark shades accordingly. But high-fidelity wireframes may include colors – red for warnings and blue for suggested actions.

A good wireframe is designed to make it easy for you to envision your app’s content. It’s also a way to communicate with other designers. It can be helpful when you need to show your product to a large audience. Besides, it can help you to sell your app in different stores. If you need a mobile app that is easy to use, you might want to use wireframes.

    • Wireframes assists your client think about what their needs are and assists them to define their project goals and what their primary focus should be.

A wireframe is a two-dimensional illustration of a page’s interface that specifically focuses on space allocation and prioritization of content, functionalities available, and intended behaviors. For these reasons, wireframes typically do not include any styling color or graphics.

Wireframe modeling is the process of visual presentation of a three-dimensional or physical object used in 3-D computer graphics. It is an abstract edge or skeletal representation of a real-world 3-D object using lines and curves

but Investors have a lot of options to choose from, so even entrepreneurs with great ideas can have a tough time securing funding to develop their app. One way to stand out from the crowd and attract those investors is prototyping, that is, creating a model that can be tested by users.  Prototyping is an interactive simulation of the final product that not only lets you and your team evaluate concepts and share feedback in the early stages of creation, but also demonstrate value to potential investors.

    Reasons to prototype:

    • A prototype is a functional idea of the product
    • When presenting it to prospective investors, it’ll work as a mean of demonstrating the product’s potential
    • Prototyping also enable you to involve clients and stakeholders in the creative process
    • You can ensure the final product will contain the features, match the ideas, and meet the goals of the project for all parties
    • If you seek funding without a prototype, potential investors may shy away from your product
    • Assure them that your goals and directions are clear.

A great app user experience doesn’t just happen

rather, its’s the result of exhaustive product development, from concept to delivery.  It’s the culmination of designing and redesigning the product over again until it’s just right.  However, the number of dedicated hours to your product may require a significant amount of capital.  So, before you throw wither all your money towards development. Or throw your idea in the trash because you don’t have the funding, it’s highly recommended to consider investing in an app prototype.

Prototypes can help entrepreneurs struggling to secure an investment.  By making your prototype look and feel like a finished product, you can bolster your chances of securing an investment.

Prospective stakeholders want to see a tangible product before investing, and prototyping helps you ease any concerns they may have.

    The How:

The prototyping process uses rapid iteration to get to a product that will add the maximum value to the user.  It is a cyclical concept there you move through each stage to the next then you reach the end, you return to the beginning (repeatedly) until you have the desired results that you need.

    Prototyping Technique:

Not all prototypes are created the same.  There are low-fi and high-fi techniques you can use which boil down too:
    • Sketches
    • Wireframes
    • Detailed prototypes

While faking it until you make it on Aardvark’s scale may take a lot of nerve – on a smaller scale through rapid proto typing it makes sense in all UX environments.  Testing ideas without building them is cheaper and more resource efficient that it has ever been.

There are plenty of tools that allow you to automate this and not all of them are expensive.  This means that a smart UX designer or UX design team can substantially boost the value they add to the bottom line without laying out a small fortune in the first place.

    Buying with your eyes:

Investors buy with their eyes not just their wallets. When understanding how to get funding for an app, visual presentations is everything.  It shows investors you’ve thought through your brand identity and the interactions that comprise your solution.  It demonstrates follow through and commitment.  Besides the human fact that people respond well – well- to visuals.

Studies have also found 65% of the population learns more effectively with visual aids.  Visuals have been linked to better information retention in long-term memory, faster message absorption and the ability to create an emotional response that motivates action.

Startup owners regularly need to make new ideas tangible with limited time and budget.  Investors don’t want to sign-on line.  So, prove your concept before your pitch. We call this process rapid prototyping.  Rapid prototyping can result in a paper, digital or clickable model to demo at the high impact meeting where ideas aren’t enough.

As a entrepreneur, your technology stack is every bit as important as the team using it. The right mobile app prototyping tools can empower you at every stage of design and development process, from refining an idea for a new app, to delivering a polished, glitch-free product to your investor.
